In recent years, both continuous and batch cooking technologies havernbeen commercially implemented in pulp mills around the world. Thernresurgence of batch cooking technologies has been due to dramaticrnimprovements on steam economy and flexibility for high quality pulprnproduction even with differing entering wood species or woodrnquality.rnTechnologies such as alkali leveling, reduction of solids duringrncooking, different impregnation technologies, and effectivernmanagement of extractives during the cook have demonstrated arnpositive effect on pulp uniformity, yield, and pulp bleachability.rnThe results of such technologies, as implemented at the M?rrums Brukrnmill of S?dra Cell AB will be quantified in this paper, and showrnthat displacement batch cooking technology is an attractive optionrnfor new and existing mills faced with investment in new or majorrnrebuilds of their cooking plants.
