摘要

Extended delignification of southern pine wood chips, rnusing an improved modified continuous cooking (IMCC)rnprocess was investigated. It is common practice tornconduct modified continuous cooking (MCC) trials withrnboth stages at 170℃.rnIn this study, the MCC process was further improved byrncooking the first stage at a much lower temperature ofrn120℃ and the second stage at 170℃. The lowerrntemperature in the first stage was used to minimizerndegradation of carbohydrates. The optimum split ratiornof effective alkali under these conditions was 50/50,rnresulting in 2% higher pulp yield, improved viscosityrnand strength properties similar to the control.rnAddition of a catalyst, anthraquinone (AQ). to thernsecond stage showed no improvement in delignificationrnefficiency. Further studies need to be done to quantifyrnthe effect of catalysts.
