Anew fluid-loss control agent has helped minimize the criticalrnproblems of fluid loss to the formation and its adverse effects onrngravel-pack completions in the Campos basin. In Brazil’s offshorerncompletions, the fluid-loss problem is magnified becausernof expensive environmentally tiendly fluids, lost rig time, wellcontrolrnstandards, and safety requirements for ultra-deep waterrncompletions.rnSince 1996, the operator has accomplished a number ofrncased-hole gravel-pack completions for offshore wells. Fluidrnloss to the formation before and after gravel-pack placement wasrnone of the problems encountered in these deepwater projects.rnThroughout industry literature, fluid loss and possible solutionsrnhave been recognized as an important factor when optimumrnproductivity from well completions is sought. If the problem isrnignored, significant formatioticompletion damage can resultrnduring the gravel-packprocess. Lost-circulation material (LCM)rnpills and formation unloading (and its chemical side-effects onrnthe rock’s compressive strength) can cause formation impairmentrnwhen losses occur.rnThese nondamaging fluid pills have reduced damage-relatedrnproblems, yielded substantial savings in rig time andrnmaterials expenditure, complied with safety standards, and providedrnhigh reliability.
