The de-regualtio of the UK electricity industry and the lower costs associated with gas-turbine based electricity production form plentiful supplies of natural gas have resutled in numerous new power station projects seeking plannign consent. A decade ago the consent conditions would have been determiend by the 'marginal significance' criterion of British Standard BS4142 [1], which isdefined as a noise level limit of 5 dB(A) above the typical background noise level.
