摘要

3G and WLAN are complementary technologies. On inter networking, they provide abundant benefits in achieving ubiquitous data service. The integration of these two technologies involve integration at various levels like billing and customer care, signaling plane functions (registration, authentication), transmission plane functions, mobility functions (roaming, handoff) etc [Jeffrey Stuart, 2002]. This paper refers specifically to the integration of a WLAN system using 802.1x port based authentication [June 2001] and a CDMA network supporting 2G/3G authentication [May 2002] This paper discusses briefly about the existing authentication methods followed in an independent WLAN network and CDMA network.. It then identifies the requirements for authenticating a terminal device capable of inter-working with both the WLAN and CDMA access networks and provides solutions to achieve integrated authentication.
