摘要

Many industries have used advanced management techniques, along with technology, to improve efficiency and generate significant supply chain cost savings. However, the healthcare industry has not fully adopted these techniques. The literature reviewed identifies the presence of strong implementation barriers and provides recommendations to overcome these barriers; yet, the implementation of such techniques in the healthcare supply chain is still needed to provide an effective and efficient service to the public. This paper uses the concept of vendor managed inventory (VMI) to discuss the positive effects of information sharing in a healthcare environment. Scenarios with and without VMI are created and analyzed using computer simulation. The results of this study examines if VMI can reduce inventory-related inefficiencies that can lead to lower costs and improved customer satisfaction.
