A submicron grained microstructure in an Al-0.2 wt.% Sc alloy was produced by EqualrnChannel Angular Pressing (ECAP). The alloy was solution treated prior to deformation,rndeformed to ε = 9.2 by ECAP then aged at 350 ℃ to produce a fine grained microstructurernexhibiting a large fraction of high angle grain boundaries and a dispersion of nanosizedrnAl3Sc particles. The work has demonstrated that the fine-grained microstructure wasrnremarkably stable during annealing at temperatures up to 500 ℃ due to pinning from highlyrnstable Al3Sc particles.
