The structure and mechanical properties of ingots and rolled sheets of Al–Mn–Zr–Si alloysrncontaining 2% Mn, 0–4% Si, and 0–1% Zr (wt.%) have been studied. Small addition ofrnsilicon substantially accelerates the strengthening of Al-Zr alloys, which is associated withrnthe formation of the metastable Al3Zr phase during annealing. Rolling of foundry ingotsrnwith 0.5% Zr and 0.2% Si, followed by annealing at 400 ℃, makes it possible to obtain thernstrength values that are much higher than those achievable for AA3003-type commercialrnalloys (UTS - 240 Mpa instead of 150 Mpa).
