Secondary ageing is a phenomenon in which precipitation hardening is observed torncontinue in alloys at relatively low temperatures after they have first aged at significantlyrnhigher temperatures. This process is reviewed in high-purity and commercial aluminiumrnalloys. Experimental results will be presented regarding the effects of residualrnsupersaturation, the role of vacancies, chemical effects, precipitates formed duringrnsecondary ageing, and practical outcomes of secondary ageing.
