Since the HST deployment in April 1990, the HST has over 7 years of orbit operation at an altitude of 600 km in an orbit inclination angle of 28.5 degrees. The First Servicing Mission (FSM) was conducted in December 1993 after 3.7 years of orbit operation. Various thermal control materials on the Solar Array (SA) I and the Magnetic Sensing System (MSS) electronics MLI blanket were returned to Earth. The SA silver Teflon solar absorptance was 0.10 and the MSS aluminum Teflon solar absorptance ranged from 0.17 to 0.22 and the Teflon had some embrittlement (Ref. 1). Photo surveys of the HST MLI and radiator surfaces conducted during the FSM showed no evidence of Teflon damage.
