摘要

This paper presents an end-to-end delay model of TCP traffic in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks. Our model shows the impact of congestion, wireless channel error (noise), and link layer contention on the delay value. In contrast to contemporary literature those focus on congestion and contention while ignoring the effect of wireless channel error. Both single-hop and multi-hopcases are addressed. The theoretical model presented in this paper is further validated by simulation. The results obtained can be used in supporting TCP congestion control mechanism in accurately identifying the cause of packet loss in the presence of congestion and non-congestion losses. Furthermore, it could be used in studying the performance of TCP proposals for ad hoc networks.
