Real coded genetic algoirhtms (GAs) that use vectors of real numbers are more approprate in the active control system. This is becases real coded GAs have the ability to explore the unknown domain as needed in desiging the controller gain. In the optimisation, the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) with output feedback is used as the objective function, where the feedback is not necessary to be a full state feedback. In this case we can select the number of sensors to be less that the state dimension. The numerical example of a six-storey building utilising active bracig systems is then performed to show the applicability of the proposed optimisation procedure.
