Abstract: In this study the fluorescence intensity ofphotosensitizer in squamous cell tumors were quantifiedin terms of the tumor resolution rate. A He-Cd laser(442 nm - 17 mW) with a 600 $mu@m core silica fiber wasused for excitation. The same fiber was used forfluorescence acquisition and an optical multichannelanalyzer (EG&G, OMA III) was used to analyze thefluorescence. Twelve days after carcinoma inoculationfluorescence signal from the tumor and skin (1 cmradius from the tumor) at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clockpositions were recorded. Benzoporphyrin Derivative(QLT, Canada - 2 mg/kg of body weight) was theninjected into the tail vein. The drug wasphotoactivated with a 690 nm modified argon pump cw-dyelaser (Medtech) operating at 140 mW/cm$+2$/ for 15mins. LIFS is capable of localizing in situ malignancyand evaluating photosensitizers for photodynamicfluorescence detection and therapy of tumors. !13
