As a result of the restructuring of the wholesale electricity industry, and of the recently implemented wholesale pricing structures, the environment for a competitive electricity market in New Zealand has been set. This has encouraged a more efficient electricity industry which will in turn better position the industry against its energy competitors. The authors describe how the corporatisation of the New Zealand's Electricity Corporation and the associated deregulation have therefore been extremely successful in achieving the efficiency goals of the New Zealand government.
