摘要

Multicasting plays an important role in the typical application of ad hoc wireless networks namely, emergency search and rescue operations, military applications etc. Implementing multicast routing protocols to MANETs leads to improve the consumption of bandwidth, improving the efficiency and reducing the cost of communication in the network.A tree based multicast routing protocol i.e. Multicast AODV shows an excellent performance in lightweight ad hoc networks, but its Quality of Service degrades as the load of the network increases. In this paper, we proposed an advanced convention of MAODV, i.e. Multicast Ad hoc On-demand distance Vector with Backup Branches (MAODV-BB), which will increase efficiency of the Multicast Ad hoc On-demand distance Vector protocol in highly loaded ad hoc networks by combining of advantages of tree based and mesh based structure. It works not only to update shorter tree branches, but also to build a multicast tree with backup branches.
