This paper presents the application of an adaptive multi-modal sampling technique to the system reliability analysis of large structures with many random variable.s the sampling density is a weighted sum of densities centered on several important regions. In this method, the branch and bound technique is first used to identify one significant sequence. This forms the initial domain fo starting the adaptive sampling. As further simulations are perfomred, information about the other significant sequences is incorporated to estimate the failure probability of the system. The adaptive simulation technique is applied to two redundant structural systems with both ductile and brittle behavior: a six-story building frame, and a transmission tower truss. Limits states related to strength and stabilit yare considered for system reliability analysis.
