The probabilistic design method plays an important role in performance assessment of structures under severe earthqueake. Since verification for the nonlinear performance of pile foundations at the ultimate limit state requires non-elastic analysis, the partial factor design format cannot be introduced easily. Some typical pile foundations are designed for various sets of partial factor values; then the differnet dimensions of pile structures are given. The partial factors need to be determined in such a way that the reliability of the resulting structure is as close as possible to a selected target value. This study is aiming at demonstrating a way to calibrate the partial factors using a static elasto-plastic analysis.
