Reliability analysis in a Signorini's mechanical contact problem

In this paper we propose an original reliability approach of the mechanical contact. The contact problems in mechanics are particularly complex and have to be numerically solved. Several numericla techniques exist to compute these calcularly complex and have to be numerically solved. Several numerical techniques exist to compute these calculations. In our study, we decide to use the penalty method which is widely developed and particularly efficient. However, some deisng parameters are uncertain and the deterministic solutions could be unacceptable. Thus, the mechanical contact study is a privileged subject for a reliability analysis. To evalaute the failure probability of a such problem, the Monte Carlo simulations and the Response Surface Methods are certainly the most efficient mechanical-reliability approaches. In the first part, we present a probabilistic unilateral contact problem. The risks, the failure mode and the limit state function are described and commentated. Then we remind of some mechanical-reliability couplings to solve it. A numerical example validates our approach and shows the interest of the reliability analysis in this mechanical context.
