摘要

A new spacecraft Launch, Entry and Abort (LEA) suit is being designed for NASA Exploration Programs. The LEA suit will provide thermal protection for the crew in nominal and contingency scenarios. An emergency that requires the crew to exit the vehicle and enter cold ocean waters has been identified as a desired design condition. This paper presents thermal analysis of a suited crew member with varying degrees of undergarment insulation. Thermal properties for the LEA suit were estimated from a survey of literature on clothing thermal performance with a focus on immersion dry suits. Analysis of a suited crew member was performed using the Wissler Human Thermal Model. The benefits and potential impacts of designing a suit with varying degrees of cold water immersion capability are discussed.
