The a im of htis study was to determine the capability f ozone and combined ozne/hydrogen peroxide treatments to degrade oxygenated additives such as Methyl Tertio Butyl Ether (MTBE) and Ethyl tertio Butyl Ether (ETBE) in dilute aqueous solution using controled experimental conditions. Experiments conducted in a semi-continuous reactor with MTBE and ETBE in combination (initial concentration approx approx 200 mg/L of each) showed that ETBE was bettereliminated than MTBE with both ozone and combined O_3/H_2O_2. Batch experiments lead to the determination of the ratio of the kinetic constants for he reaction of OH deg -radical with MTBE and ETBE (kOH deg /ETBE/kOH deg /MTBE chemical bounds 1.7). Ter-Butyl formate and Tert-Butyl acetate were identified as the ozonation by products of MTBE and ETBE respoectively, while Tert-Butyl alochol was found to be produced during the ozonation of both compounds.
