This study has examined the thermal effects of a reactor pressure vessel anneal on the concrete in the primary shield that forms the reactor cavity. The following are a summary of the major findings based on the pilot model (extrapolation to other plants should be done on a plant specific basis only): 1. The original HVAC design of the pilot plant is adequate even for a bounding case that assumes the entire vessel is at anneal temperature of 850℉. 2. The performance of the actual vessel insulation may be adversely affected during an anneal. This should be evaluated prior to an anneal. 3. The integrity of the concrete was maintained for all normal annealing cases studied. 4. Loss of HVAC during annealing was identified as the major concern.
