Commonwealth Edison has 12 nuclear units which typically supply over 80% of the total electrical Kwh consumed by our customers. With such a significant investment in nuclear energy generation, minimizing nuclear fuel cycle costs takes on an even higher importance for the company and our customers. Competitive bidding amongst the various nuclear fuel vendors greatly contributes to the utility's ability to minimize those fuel cycle costs, but could result in the utility transitioning to a different fuel supply vendor on a somewhat frequent basis. The evaluation of the merits of transitioning to a different fuel supply vendor, especially as it relates to the stations and the engineering support functions, as well as management of the implementation will be presented.
