In order to obtain both geometric and manufacturing data to build product model for parts, it is necessary to develop a feature modeling system based on a current business CAD software (I-DEAS). In this system, non-geometrical information, such as tolerance, surface roughness, is associated with I-DEAS geometric features and volumes so that a full description for parts can be supplied. The output data are converted to STEP neutral file to build a consistent and unambiguous data model to close the gap in CAD/CAM integration.
