A two-dimensional mathematical model was developed to simulate unsteady flow of molten glass with density variation of inhomogeneous melt. The effects of density variation in batch material on glass flow and temperature distribution are investigated by this model.To simulate transient flow of molten glass, we developed the unsteady glass flow model with density distribution. This unsteady model consists of the momentum equation, the energy equation and the density variation equation newly introduced.To assure validity of the model, we compared the simulation results with measured data in real tank. The calculated results agreed on the whole with those in actual glass tank.Then we investigated some influence of glass density variation caused by change in material batch on the flow and temperature. As a result, we presented transient changes in flow pettren and bottom temperature distribution by this model.
