For the identification of male reproductive hazard of yttrium, Wistar rats were gavaged with 4-400mg YCl_3/kg/d,5d/wk for 3 months. Caudal epididymal sperm characteristice,plasma and testicu-lar testosterone concentrations, and pathology of reproductive organs were examined The results showed only a trend of dose-effect dependent slight decrease in body weight gain in 40 and 400 mg YCl_3/kg groups. Epididymis/body weight ratio and percentage of high swimming speed sperm in 400 mg YCl_3/kg group were higher than those of saline control group,while its sperm malformation rate was slightly lower In conclusion, YCl_3, after oral administration,had no obvious male reproductive toxicity on rats.
