ISTEA has a profound impact on the way in which transportation systems in this nation are being shaped. It has also changed the way in which transportation planning, design, implementation and operation is executed. New attitudes, perspectives, insights, policies, technologies, and methods and tools are required. In order to provide better understanding of intermodal guideway transit systems and practical tools for their implementation, important factors influencing the success of future intermodal guideway transit systems are being studied at LCTR and CUTR. Although there is no formula for successful intermodal system implementations, it is hoped that, through extensive case studies, practical guidelines and procedures, along with examples of successful intermodal planning, design, implementation, and operation may be developed for policymakers, transportation planners, and transit operators.
