In this study microcrystalline cellulose and low-substituted hydroxy-propylcellulose were used as binder-disintegrants, ethenzamide and ascorbic acid, as poor water soluble and water soluble model drugs respectively, to make a rapidly disintegrating tablet by direct compression method. This study was conducted to find a new improved method to facilitate the oral administration of drugs to the elderly. The disintegration and wetting mechanisms of this tablet were discussed and a disintegration method different than the one discribed in JPXXII was presented.
