A new method of surface treatment of ceramic particles by SPCP-CVD and its application was proposed. SPCP-CVD is a kind of CVD reaction using surface corona discharge for activation of reactive gas components. When the surface of ceramic particles absorbed with organo silicic compounds vapor is activated by applying surface corona discharge, it is possible to prepare ceramic particles which have organic groups on the surface. In this study, we tried to treat the surface of ceramic particles with organic groups by SPCP-CVD method and to immobilize enzyme on their surface as the application. In the experiment, 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane was used as a organo silicic compound. Treated silica beads were analyzed by FT-IR, and it was confirmed that the aminopropyl groups exist on the surface of ceramic particles. After this treatment, glucoamylase was immobilized on the beads by a glutaraldehyde cross linkage method. By using the glucoamylase immobilized silica beads, maltose hydrolysis was carried out.
