In this work, three fast grid generation methods for internal and external flow problems with relatively simple geometries are compared. The methods are (1) an algebraic grid generation method and methods solving (2) parabolic and (3) hyperbolic partial differential equations which start either from a single boundary, from a pair of opposite boundaries, or from all of the boundaries. Numerical experiments show that the performances of the three methods differ only slightly. In regard to grid smoothness, the hyperbolic equation method is a little better than the other methods. In regard to speed, the algebraic method is the fastest method requiring about 60 percent of the CPU time of the others.
