Since TMI-2 accident, the accident management program (AMP) has been actively studied and its attributes and structure were identified. To manage accidents not dealt with by energency operation procedure (EOP), platns should maximize their capabilities of managing with them by using exisiting systems. In this study~1, the feasibility to use the safety depressurization system (SDS) for accident managment is investigated based on thermohydraulic analysis as a part of the YGN 3&4 AMP. the SDS is designed for the feed-and-bleed operation under total loss of feedwater condition. Normally its operation is not permitted elsewhere. According to this study, some accidents can be terminated by using the SDS to inject water into RCS using LPSI wihtout significant core damage. Consequently this study shows that the SDS operation with rCS injection is feasible for accident management.
