Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology involves placing radio-transmitter tags on items; these tags, comprised of a computer chip and small antenna, transmit data wirelessly up to distances of several meters and the signals can be detected with RFID receivers [9]. RFID has become widely-used as a supply-chain aid; the technology can provide a cost-effective way of monitoring shipments, and can greatly reduce theft. As the cost of RFID tags has dropped, retailers now find it cost effective to tag individual items. This study focuses on consumer beliefs about the short-range distance tags used on retail items.
