An isolated ejecting mouse heart preparation was developed to examine the relationship between local myocyte disarray associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (FHC) and alterations in regional mechanics. Nonhomogeneous strain analysis showed that surface strains in the transgenic mouse hearts were more nonuniform than normal controls possibly due to focal/local myocyte disarray or fibrosis.
