In the Cana Brava region, mineralization occurs in serpentinites produced by hydrothermal action on ultramafic rocks. Chrysotile veins cut the serpentine body in variable directions. As a result of physicomechanical tests and petrographic studies it was possible to characterize three types of serpentinite ore, which respond differently to mechanical stresses, such as uniaxial compressive strenght and Los Angeles abrasion.It was shown that milled fibers deriving from the more resistant serpentinite type show the highest content of fines, while those coming from soft serpentinites produce the least amount of fines.
