Natural and tailored minerals were applied as adsorbents for the removal of dehydroabietic acid (DHA) from a model process whitewater.This study investigated the effects of several paprameters (mineral cation exchange capacity)(CEC),tailoring cation dosage,type of cations,etc.) on (1) the adsorption capacity of tailored minerals and (2) the efficiency of treatment.Tailored minerals were prepared by mixing clays and zeolites with short chain (tetramethylammonium,tetrabutylammonium,butylamine) and long chain (hexadecyltrimethylammonium,(HDTMA)) organic cations,Doses of the tailoring cation ranged from zero to 1.5 times the mineral CEC.
