This paper discusses horizontal drilling procedure and production technology and the characteristics of extra heavy oil reservoirs in Jurassic age Qigu formation in region 9-8, Karamay oil field of Xinjiang, China. Technologies used to develop the shallow extra heavy oil reservoirs in region 9-8 are described. Daily oil production using horizontal wells average 508 times than of vertical wells in the same region.
