Error analysis of heat flux measurement on membrane waterwalls

A new approach has been presented by the authors to solve a category of inverse conduction problems in linear systems with concern in its application in steady heat flux measurement. A particular example is to determine local heat fluxes on membrane walls in experimental and in-situ studies of heat transfer in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) and traditional boiler furnaces. The basic idea is to measure temperatures at certain locations in the membrane wall itself and then to derive the heat flux on the surface. In this paper, the error transmission in this method is further studied by means of theoretical analysis and computer simulations. Influence of the error in the heat transfer coefficient inside the tubes on the heat flux measurement is investigated. The influences of other facotrs on the error transmission are also discussed such as locations where the temperature sensors are installed.
