In this paper, a formulation of hybrid finite element-boundary element method used for solving the axially symmetric magneto-static field problems with open boundaries is presented. According to the vectial formulation, the variables rA and u/r partial deriv rA/ partial deriv n, which fit the axially symmetric problems better, are chosen as the unknowns. To further simplify the procedure, only the variable rA is accepted as the unknown. The validity of this method is checked by two calulated examples. Finally, A computation of the ferromagnetic shielding problem for superconducting magnetic resonance imaging is given with this method.
