This paper will provide an overview of the "Fast Path" project which was designed to simplify the selection of plastic materials for energy management development (i.e. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 201, Automotive Head Impact Requirements). It will discuss the following topics: developing a system to select appropriate combinations of materials and energy absorbing designs for dynamic impact applications, developing part design, tooling, and test equipment, and establishing a system to provide engineering recommendations for future plastic products.
