The use of in-line intra-arterial filters to trap large to mid-size embli released during interventional procedures such as Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angiography (PTCA) has been propsed as a means of reducing events such as stroke and acute coronary syndromes. However, the fluid dynamics of such in vivo filters have not been examined to date. Such information should provide useful information on optimizing filter design to minimize pressure drop and reduce thrombus formation.
