The purpose of this paper is to estimate the performance of stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) systems, using a method based on the loss-of-load probability (LLP) technique. The later allows the estimation of the optimum combination of battery capacity (C_s) and photovoltaic array peak power (P_c). The problem consists in determining the combination which corresponds to a minimum total system cost. Two methods are proposed in order to estimate the LLP. The first one is based on the solar energy deviation and the second uses the auxiliary energy estimated by the Markovian model.
