This paper focuses on the in-vehicle communication needs and emerging standards betweenoperator devices (external displays, fare collection, GPS localisation, wireless data transmissiondevices, etc.) onboard public transport buses. It was found out that a suitable Europeanwide open standard is under development, namely EN13149, and it's features are explained.The coming piloting site – the City of Tampere – is introduced and the latest pilot device detailsare presented briefly, because of delays, and there is only limited information availableby the time this article is being finished. The latest results are presented at the conference.
