The paper provides a description of FIAT, VOLKSWAGEN and RENAULT demonstratorvehicles as equipped in the context of the European Project LACOS, a fourth frameworkresearch programme project aimed at investigating and evaluating Lateral Control SupportSystems.Devices equipping the three prototype vehicles had two main tasks:? demonstrate and validate two Lateral Control functions (Lane Change Support, LaneWarning Support);? develop different HMI solutions to interface the driver with the LACOS System andsupport him/her by warnings during lateral control manoeuvres.The functional architecture and HMI configurations adopted by the three Car Makers arepresented, underlining the common solutions and the differences between the threedemonstrator vehicles. Some of the experimental procedures followed to verify the technicalperformances of the developed LACOS Systems are also reported.
