As ITS is introduced and evolved, it is no doubt that the characteristics of communicationtraffic and designing ITS communication network will become crucial issues to attainsuccessful ITS. For an effective and optimal design of communication network in ITS, weshould take account of the distinctive characteristics of communication traffic in ITS, whichwill be quite different from conventional fixed communication networks due to the movementof vehicles that generates communication traffic. This paper focuses on the relationshipbetween transportation traffic and communication traffic, and presents a model for the roadvehiclecommunication traffic. A simulator is developed based on the model to reveal therelationship. Simulation results are also presented to indicate characteristics of thecommunication traffic and its impact to road-vehicle communication networks as well.
