IMT-2000, which is expected to be the next generation cellular telecommunication system,will start its first services in Japan in the spring of 2001, forerunning the world. The world ofIMT-2000 will offer various characteristic features such as remarkably accelerated datatransmission speed in comparison to current cellular telecommunication systems, improvedquality of calls, and international roaming services. It is easy to imagine that the introductionof IMT-2000 will facilitate the changeover of the current cellular phone systems. Moreover,note worthily, it will cast the gleam of new services and applications, which are mere fantasiesunder current cellular environments, even applying the wire-line infrastructure. One typicalindication would be applications to car multimedia.Considering the changes in car multimedia environments, while basing upon the approachesto IMT-2000 in Japan as well as the available technologies and services to be achieved byIMT-2000, this report is to investigate and identify the fusion of the next generation cellulartelecommunication with car multimedia.
