We introduce the Moving Maglev (flying) Highway System reported from the Second ITSWorld Congress. A moving/flying (maglev) road presents a new paradigm for road trafficsystems. In developing the new system, the creation of various concepts of the moving/flyingroad and the selection of the optimum concept are of critical importance. The selection willnot only determine the overall performance of the moving/flying road as a new traffic system, but also the Life-Cycle Cost (LCC). This study examines particularly, the performance ofvarious support systems of the moving/flying road, including wheel support and magneticlevitation. It also compares the service levels and LCC of each system and examines theconcept selection approach. The study clarifies the important issues that should be consideredduring the development work by introducing the new concept of Innovation Cost Down Ratio(ICDR). The study introduces the concept selection approach called "physical based selectionflow."
