摘要

Metropolitan Expressway, an intraurban expressway has a number of tunnels andsemi-underground sections and their ratio to all the roadway sections in service distance hasbeen on the upswing and is expected to increase more and more. An analysis of accidents byroad structure type by the Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation (MEPC) disclosedthat the rates of accidents occurred inside the tunnels and semi-underground sections werecomparatively high. Especially inside these tunnels, each of which is a closed space, anyabnormal incidents are likely to lead to serious accidents. To the MEPC, taking safetymeasures for the tunnels is an important task. Thus, the MEPC is looking into a Safe DrivingSupport System intended for safe driving inside the tunnels, as reported in this paper.
