In the increasingly competitive manufacturing market, most manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to reduce costs and increase output using the same equipment they have always had. The use of PVD-coated dies have offered a solution for many different manufacturers without having to design or order new tooling or equipment. In the last couple of years, newer PVD coatings, like Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAIN), have introduced harder wear surfaces and are chemically less active than precious coatings. When looding to protect the steel die and prevent the inevitable chemical attack on the steel, as well as offer a surface with a lower coefficient of friction that will lacilitate a more consistent flow of aluminum extrusions that will result in a better part surface, then PVD coatings offer a relatively inexpensive solution.
