This paper is aimed to examine the effectiveness of Design for Manual Assembly (DFMA) application in product development of coin and card - public phone; called "Kanada". The first prototype was developed from coin public phone and card public phone by joining their function in a single product. Analysis of the first prototype showed that the assembly efficiency was up to 7.8%. The Boothroyd/Dewhurst Design for Manual Assembly methodology was used to improve the first design. Design scenario covered combining separate parts (using PCB and front cover as central of assembly), using integral keys to join electronic and non-electronic parts, removing bolts and nuts as musch as possible, improving parts' shape and layout, and implementation of the other rules for minimum number of parts and simplification product structure. The design improvement resulted in 79.37% decreased in total parts number, 82.06% decreased in assembly time, 77.17% decreased in operations number, 63.87% decreased in product's weight, and increased assembly efficiency up to 35.98%.
