Sulfide copper ores in Kazakhstan are complex ores, which along with copper contain lead, zinc, rare and precious metals. While concentrating these ores by flotation methods, copper, lead and zinc concentrates are produced. Copper concentrates are processed by pyrometallurgical methods, resulting in the production of cathode copper and sulfuric acid as commercial goods. Due to the high volatilization of their highest oxides, rare metals - rhenium and osmium - are converted into metallurgical gases and during subsequent scrubbing are distributed between various by-products: slag, slime, dust and solution. The distribution of osmium and rhenium has been studied in the processing of copper concentrates, given their contents in the gaseous phase. It has been determined that wash sulfuric acid, products of its processing, and lead slimes are the major concentrating agents for rare metals. Here the electric smelting and conversion as the methods of metallurgical concentration are considered, allowing the production of materials ten and one hundred thousand times enriched by osmium and rhenium. Based on the study of osmium behavior in ammonium sulfite-sulfate systems simulating mother liquors generated in solid-phase rhenium stripping, the forms of osmium occurrence have been defined, and the diagram for osmium chemical conversion in the processes of formation and time interval of mother liquors has been presented. Hydrometallurgical flowcharts have been proposed for the production of concentrates enriched by rhenium and osmium through using leaching, extraction and precipitation. Commercial goods are metal osmium and ammonium perrhenate.
