In this contribution the flotation behavior of quartz and microcline by different types of nonionic surfactants have been studied. The nonionic surfactants used were (Brij 56, Brij 58, and PGME). The quartz was floated by all used types of polyoxyethylenic nonionic surfactants whereas the microcline did not. Increasing of quartz recovery, when the oxyethylenic length of surfactants increases, have been observed. Zeta potential measurements in the presence of PGME have been carried out. In the presence of the nonionic PGME surfactant, a decrease in negative value of the zeta potential is observed. Differences in the zeta potential values between quartz and microcline, in the presence of PGME, have been detected. Interestingly, in the mixed surfactant system, microcline can be floated and the quartz floatability has been induced as a result of hydrophobic interactions between the adsorbed surfactant chains at the quartz or microcline-water interface. Zeta potential measurements of quartz and microcline in mixed surfactant system indicated strong interaction between the two surfactants at the mineral-water interface; leading to the coadsorption of the two surfactants.
